The loft is a great place for a Sunday CS Lunch! The venue was ideal for hosting a large group of hungry and probably hangover CSers with our tables ready and waiting for us, orders taken quickly and delicious food. I had the Roast Gloucester Old Spot pork belly, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, assorted roasted vegetables, caramelised apple and homemade apple chutney from their brunch menu (check it out on The Loft website). I can honestly say it was the best Sunday roast I have had from a restaurant for a long time; not only that but it included a free glass of wine (as part of the CS Deals social) and it was for under £10 – which in Clapham for a Sunday lunch is hard to find!

The staff were accommodating to our large group and everything flowed smoothly, there was a little wait on food but it wasn’t a big problem. I’d not been to The Loft before but I could see that it was a cool South London bar, where the staff seemed to know a thing about hospitality and looked after us all. The management of this place who have planned the menu proved their attention to detail by hitting the spot with the food and drink. The fresh orange juice was literally squeezed right in front of my eyes and the banoffee pie although I didn’t have any looked out of this world. Not everybody opted for the roast and the alternative dishes on the Brunch Menu kept everybody happy, it certainly wasn’t a carvery style place.

What a really lovely group of CSers who were friendly and easy to chat to came along, great company for a Sunday afternoon. There were a handful of North Londoners who travelled to the area who said of all events listed it was the most appealing posted for Sunday afternoon!

The Loft is the best place in Clapham to spend a Sunday afternoon and even better if you are spending it with a friendly CitySocialising group’ which sums up the social – it did exactly what it said on the tin. I would, without a doubt be more than happy to return to The Loft and host another Sunday lunch here. The venue layout, atmosphere, food and drink were spot on and it really does have something different about it being on the first floor, overlooking Clapham High Street with floor to ceiling windows. I’m planning to host a Friday/Saturday night event there very soon.

The Liverpool Street Friday night drinks at The Babble was great fun. The venue was really easy to find and very busy when I got there. All the hosts were very friendly and made an effort to introduce me to new people.

The music at the venue was great, if a bit loud – which made it a bit hard to chat to people initially. This soon changed after a few drinks though! There were also 2 for 1 cocktail specials during happy hour which were great value.

We ended up on the dance floor with a big group and I didn’t leave till around midnight.

I had only been in London for 6 weeks but I made some great new friends on the night and plan to catch up with them again very soon. I really enjoyed the Social and look forward to attending more!!

Ohhhh what can I say… This social was AMAZING!!! I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious the food was, just the right amount of spice and portions were nicely betty sized just as I like them!!

It was perfect. We started the evening just chilling near the bar and waiting for fellow socialisers to arrive. I really enjoyed meeting the newbies, its always-such a joy to find out about what people have been up to during the day and to exchange stories and experiences in general.

It’s a great feeling as we are all here to find friends and socialise. I really enjoyed this evening as the food was just lovely and the company was fun and highly entertaining, and well lets jus say the free cocktails went down a treat as I was one of the few who wasn’t driving that night..

To sum it up ….what a quality social! It helped that it was easy to get to as the restaurant is near a metro station, the price was definitely worth the food and the atmosphere was bright thanks to the lovely people that attended.

Social in the spotlight: Pizza Making Lunch

“For as long as I can remember I have played some form of sport on Saturdays.  About five years ago I asked a colleague how the other half lived on Saturdays, to which she responded “Oh, I go shopping and to the beauty salon on Saturdays”.  That response pretty much ensured that I signed up to another 5 years of sport on Saturdays.  But as I discovered last Saturday, there are alternatives to battling it out with the tourists and aggressive shoppers on Oxford Street.

The Pizza-making lunch was a fantastic way to spend a Saturday afternoon as well as giving us the chance to meet new people.  The welcome from La Porchetta in Clerkenwell consisted of a smile, the offer of the first of several glasses of wine and an apron and “chef’s hat” – in all honesty it did look like they’d mistakenly ordered paper sailor hats from the local fancy dress shop but nevertheless we entered into the spirit of things.  After speculating with others whether the restaurant would offer to make another pizza for us if our efforts went horrendously wrong, we were treated to a demonstration of how to make our pizzas by the pizza chef.  And then we were off…

Within 15 minutes we were sitting down eating our efforts and helping ourselves to the wine on offer.  No-one’s pizza ended up on the floor, though admittedly not many of us tried spinning the dough above our heads, and everyone seemed pretty content with their efforts.

In summary it was a great afternoon.  It involved doing something different which wasn’t too taxing if, say, you had one too many beverages the night before.  And for the shy CitySocialising member the pizza-making is a good way to break the ice rather than the typical “So how long have you been a member of CS?” questions.  If you get the chance to try your hand at this, I say go for it.  I will definitely be pizza-making again.”
